End the War on Drugs
Up one levelI'll promote jury nullification, as promoted by the Fully Informed Jury Association (FIJA.org), a Libertarian Party related idea. It's how northern juries freed captured Southern slaves before the Civil War. I'll use my pulpit in Congress to publicize the entirely legal option that citizens serving on juries have; that they judge not only the facts of the case, but also whether they feel that the law violated is worthy of being a law. Juries can subvert bullies in government; bad laws won't hold up in court; prosecution of "the possession and use of drugs" offenses will fail. It will empty the jails and prisons, deprive police and judges of power, and put politicians on notice that looney laws ultimaely have to pass citizen muster.
- The War on Drugs
- As a Form of Jim Crow, or is it war against some very poor people in obscure countries?
